I'm a Cat! Here Are 4 Things I Love About Living in Baja California
I don't think we're moving back to America anytime soon!
Do you remember how old you were the first time you heard the roar of the ocean? The first time you smelled the salty air? Saw a beautiful sunset over a liquid horizon that seemed to stretch on and on forever? I am experiencing these things for the first time at six years old. It is one of the many things I love about Mexico. Let's take a closer look at my growing list.
The Food
I know what you're thinking. I'm a cat! What do I know about tacos and enchiladas? Absolutely nothing. What I do know is that the cat food in Mexico doesn't affect my sensitive tummy as badly as the food does in America.
Back in the U.S., the missus rations my wet food and must give me probiotics every single time. In Mexico, we have no such concerns. I can get even twice the typical amount of wet food with no tummy upset.
The People
My missus recently became very ill. She ran a fever for three days and was so weak she could hardly get out of bed. A friend she had made since moving back to Mexico came to her aid, even though they were risking their own health in the process.
Four paws are very handy when hunting outside or doing parkour in the RV. Sadly, they are not so very handy when the missus is sick, so I was glad for the help. Not everyone has been delightful, but the good outweighs the bad by far.
The Furry Friends
RV parks in Mexico have far fewer rules when it comes to pets than U.S. RV parks do. For example, our current RV park has no rules about leashing pets. Missus gets mad every time she has to go outside and pick up dog poo off her lot (she doesn't have any dogs!). She hates when she wants to back in, and the neighbor's dogs are at the back tires yapping.
But, I like the amusement of so many furry friends wandering outside. They entertain me. She is often out and about enjoying her new life in Mexico, and they keep me company when she's gone.
The Sounds and Smells
We've lived in Puerto Peñasco before but have never been this close to the beach. The beach where we park is rocky with no sand, so the ocean roars loudly all day and all night. It drowns out most other sounds in the park, but if you listen closely, you can still hear the dogs, the traffic, and the people coming to and fro.
I can smell the ceviche at the restaurant next door and the fresh fish on the boats that pass by. The salty air is unlike anything I have ever experienced. Missus worries about the salt and her FJ, and the fishy smell is sometimes a little overwhelming. But for me? It smells delicious!
We've gotten a lot of questions about whether Ensenada will become our new, permanent home. The safe answer is that NOWHERE will ever be our permanent home. However, Ensenada certainly has a special place in our lives. We love it more than Rocky Point and see ourselves returning for years to come. So, when do we leave? No time soon!
